Our Offerings – Advancing Laboratory Excellence & Accuracy
Service Overview
Proficiency Testing Australia, a not-for-profit registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, is Committed to Public and National Benefits through Proficiency Testing
Proficiency Testing
PTA helps organizations achieve ISO/IEC 17043:2023 accreditation for their Proficiency Testing (PT) programs. Our services include assisting with sample sourcing, homogeneity testing, labeling, packaging, transport, customs clearance, and distribution. We also handle data analysis, PT report preparation, and coordinate with accreditation bodies to ensure compliance.
Method Validation
Our team provides statistical expertise to validate laboratory methods, ensuring accuracy and compliance. We assist in data preparation, selecting appropriate statistical techniques, interpreting results, and tailoring services to specific testing fields.
Data Analysis
We specialize in the preparation, comparison, and statistical manipulation of data, helping laboratories identify trends, correlations, and performance gaps. Our qualified statisticians use accepted statistical procedures to deliver actionable insights.
Reporting
We provide comprehensive reports using applications like S+, Word, and Excel, integrating graphical data representations for clear and precise reporting.
Quality Management
PTA helps organizations establish and maintain robust quality management systems aligned with ISO/IEC 17043:2023. Our services include internal audits, system documentation reviews, and compliance assessments to enhance laboratory performance.
Specialist Technical Services
Leveraging a network of industry experts, PTA provides specialized consulting assignments in technical fields requiring advanced expertise. We assess each request to ensure we can deliver solutions that meet the highest standards.
Analysing Results- Ensuring Accuracy & Reliability
For testing programs, a laboratory’s performance is typically assessed by comparing its results to consensus values derived from all submitted data. We utilize statistical procedures based on z-score calculations, allowing us to assess variations both within a laboratory and between laboratories.
For calibration programs, results are compared against values established by a reference laboratory, considering measurement uncertainties. Performance is then judged using the En ratio, ensuring a fair and precise evaluation.
At the completion of each program, participants receive a comprehensive final report detailing submitted results, statistical analyses, graphical presentations, and overall performance insights, along with a summary sheet highlighting key findings. In case of any concerns or discrepancies, participants can appeal by reporting directly to the Program Coordinator.
The issue is reviewed as per PTA’s Corrective Action procedures, with a Technical Adviser’s input if needed. If valid, the summary sheet is updated and reissued, ensuring fairness and transparency.

Elevate Your Laboratory Standards with PTA Programs
Testing Programs – Enhance Your Laboratory’s Performance
These programs involve the distribution of sub-samples of a material for testing by participating laboratories. The results are analysed statistically with each laboratory receiving a report detailing its testing performance. Proficiency Testing Australia offers a wide range of testing programs covering most areas of testing including:
Most PTA testing programs run continuously, offering 1–6 programs yearly, including for overseas participants. National accreditation bodies use the results to assess their accredited laboratories’ competence.
Measurement Programs – Precision Calibration & Compliance
The artefacts are fully characterised, with current calibration data and reference values. Proficiency Testing Australia offers a wide range of calibration programs covering most areas of calibration including:
These programs circulate measurement artefacts among laboratories for assessment. A single-participant evaluation is called a Measurement Audit, where performance is compared to a reference value.

Training
The Training Programs are Delivered by Qualified Staff with Extensive Experience in Proficiency Testing
Customized In-House Training
Proficiency Testing Australia may conduct in-house courses for your organisation. The course may be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation (i.e. calibration and/or testing programs) or we can develop specific training programs based on your requirements.
- Train 5+ employees cost-effectively instead of sending them to external courses.
- Tailored content that aligns with your processes, not just hypothetical examples.
- Flexible scheduling to minimize disruption to daily operations.
- Reduced travel costs – Our trainers come to you!
Attachment Training
For a deeper, hands-on learning experience, Attachment Training allows participants to work directly with PTA experts over a longer period. This immersive approach provides exposure to:
- Effective communication methods for testing programs
- Software tools used for data analysis & report writing
- Real-world proficiency testing procedures
